Training details

The Effective Reading Interventions Academy 2004 will help struggling elementary and middle school readers succeed.

Each academy features research-based curricula and techniques that work in the following:

  • Supplemental programs
  • General and special education
  • Summer school and after school
  • Title 1
  • Academic year and interim sessions

In just two days, teachers will learn skills grounded in research-based practices, which can be used to increase the reading skills of struggling readers. Teachers will also learn:

  • How to develop an intensive reading intervention program for elementary and middle school students
  • Instructional strategies for increasing reading achievement

This academy takes a "best practices" approach and incorporates the following research-based programs to illustrate concepts: REWARDS and The Six-Minute Solution (Sopris West Educational Services), Phonics for Reading and Skills for School Success (Curriculum Associates), and Reasoning and Writing (SRA).

Academy workshops are offered for two skill levels: Primary (for students entering grades 2-3), and Intermediate (for students entering grades 4-8).

The academy dates are as follows (make sure to attend the appropriate dates depending on your school district):

Academy 1 - February 23-24, 2004: TOBI participants from Clark County (161), Idaho Falls (91), American Falls (381), and Madison (321) districts
